Experience:
I’ve worked on everything from large international acquisitions to family-owned business sales and capital raises. These days, my sweet spot is helping founders grow and prepare for their next move, whether that’s an expanding their existing business, merger or acquisition, or a restructure and refinement.

Role at Bird Law:
My role at Bird Law as the senior legal practitioner and strategic leader of a firm is to oversee complex legal matters, provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, and to manage key client relationships. In addition to delivering high-level legal expertise, my role encompasses responsibility for business operations, including financial management, staffing, compliance, and long-term strategic planning.

Interests:
My interests include golf, racing cars, sailing, basketball and sharing these hobbies with my four beautiful kids and wife, Laura.

Experience:
I am an experienced commercial lawyer with a strong focus on corporate and commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and retail and commercial leasing.
I have acted for a broad range of clients including vendors, purchasers, landlords, tenants, contractors, developers, lenders and borrowers across diverse commercial and property matters. I work closely with executive teams and external advisers including CEOs, directors, CFOs, accountants and agents to deliver practical, commercially focused outcomes.

My experience includes:
I have extensive experience advising on commercial transactions, having facilitated numerous deals for both buyers and sellers, including business sales and purchases, share sales, partnership interest transfers and unit sales. I regularly prepare and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements and provide strategic advice to businesses and individuals on appropriate legal structuring and restructuring, including arrangements involving companies, trusts and partnerships. I also have significant experience in retail and commercial leasing, acting for both landlords and tenants across most Australian jurisdictions, with particular expertise in matters involving major shopping centres and CBD assets.

Role at Bird Law:
My role at Bird Law is to advise clients on corporate and commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and retail and commercial leasing matters. I work closely with founders, operators and advisory teams to progress transactions efficiently and with clarity, and particularly enjoy working with ambitious founders and growth-focused businesses.

Interests:
Outside of legal practice, I am the co-founder of DryStep, an Australian eCommerce sock brand. This hands-on commercial experience informs my practical and solutions-focused approach when advising clients. My interests include fitness and performance, playing and watching basketball, following MMA, travelling, and personal development.

Experience:
I have experience across academia, government, and the not-for-profit sector. Recent roles include Research Assistant at Flinders University and Freelance Grant and Tender Writer, building on prior experience as Community Manager, Programs & Fundraising Assistant, and Administrative Coordinator at The Gold Foundation. Strong background in political and parliamentary support through positions with Senator Andrew McLachlan CSC, Paula Luethen MP, and the Hon. Steven Marshall MP. Earlier experience includes education and fundraising roles, demonstrating versatility, initiative, and a commitment to community impact.

Role at Bird Law:
My role at bird law consists of conducting legal research and preparing memoranda, briefs, and draft advice, as well as assisting with the drafting and review of contracts, agreements, and other legal documents. I support the principal in managing client files and may attend client meetings, mediations, and court hearings as required. I provide litigation support by preparing court documents, staying up to date with changes in the law, and offering ad hoc administrative and procedural assistance to ensure the smooth running of legal matters.

My personal interests are racing simulation, military history and tenpin bowling.

Nadine Uysal

About Nadine

Qualifications:

Experience:
I have experience in commercial law, with a focus on transactional matters. I have assisted on a range of commercial transactions, including business sales and acquisitions, commercial and retail leasing, property-related agreements and transactions, and contract drafting and review, including shareholder agreements and service agreements.

I have worked on matters involving a diverse range of clients, from sole traders and small businesses through to larger corporate entities, including ASX-listed companies.

I also have experience in litigation and dispute resolution, where I have assisted with the preparation of legal documents, attended mediations and counsel briefings, and supported clients through various stages of the process.

Role at Bird Law:
At Bird Law, I contribute to the firm’s commercial and property practice, supporting a range of commercial and property law matters. I work closely within the team to assist in the efficient progression of matters and to ensure clients receive clear, practical, and commercially focused guidance and outcomes.

Interests:
My interests include disability advocacy, reading, and health and fitness. I also enjoy travelling and spending quality time with my husband and our family.

With a professional background in graphic design and web development, I specialise in branding, corporate identity, packaging, business communication, websites, advertising messages across all formats, and digital platforms—including new and emerging media—alongside high-impact visual content.

I serve as Head of Marketing and Client Experience at Bird Law, where I oversee the firm’s brand strategy, marketing initiatives and overall client journey. My role focuses on ensuring that every interaction with Bird Law is clear, professional and positive, from first contact through to the delivery of legal services. I work to make legal services more accessible and engaging through thoughtful communication, a strong visual identity and effective marketing systems, while continuously refining processes to ensure clients receive the best possible experience with the firm.

Interests:
Outside of work, I’m passionate about the outdoors and performance-driven lifestyles. I enjoy golf, camping, hiking, surfing, road trips, and fitness, and I’m currently exploring ways to turn these passions into content and community-driven ventures. Mitchell Searle

About Mitchell

Qualifications:
Current Adelaide University Law student

Experience:
Mitchell is currently in the final year of his Bachelor of Laws at the University of Adelaide. Prior to joining BirdLaw as a Law Clerk, he completed work experience with the firm, where he developed a strong interest in commercial law. He also works as a clerk in the area of personal injury law, assisting solicitors in achieving the best outcomes possible for seriously injured workers.

Role at Bird Law:
Mitchell assists the firm’s solicitors with legal research, document drafting, and client matters across the range of practice areas at BirdLaw. In his role as Law Clerk, he supports the team by contributing research and analysis on specific matters and helping solicitors efficiently prepare and deliver high-quality legal advice to our valued clients.

Interests:
Outside of work, Mitchell enjoys a wide range of sports and physical activities, including running and going to the gym. As a football player, he particularly enjoys the strategic and mental aspects of the game, an interest that carries into his approach to legal work. He values maintaining a healthy lifestyle and bringing a competitive and disciplined mindset to both sport and his professional development. Mitchell aims to perform strongly in his final year of study and progress into a junior lawyer role in the near future.
